Bishop Jaya Rao of Eluru Urges Priests, Religious Lawyers to Uphold Citizens' Dignity and Right

Eluru, December 7, 2024: Bishop Jaya Rao of Eluru delivered a powerful message at the inaugural session of the National Lawyers Forum of Catholic Priests and Religious, emphasizing the importance of upholding the dignity and rights of citizens.

Bishop Rao defined law as a set of rules and regulations that govern human behaviour and regulate relationships in society. He drew inspiration from Pope Leo XIII, who advocated for workers' rights, and other popes like John XXIII, John Paul II, and Pope Francis, who have followed in his footsteps.

The bishop also remembered Archbishop Oscar Romero, a martyr who spoke out against the government. He urged the delegates to hold on to the Bible and the Indian Constitution, emphasizing that without these guiding principles, "we are like fish out of water."

The inaugural session of the National Lawyers Forum of Catholic Priests and Religious was held today at St. Joseph's Dental College, Eluru, with a vibrant dance featuring students from the college. The event was attended by over 100 delegates from across the country.

Fr. Bala, Vicar General of the Diocese of Eluru, extended a warm welcome to the delegates, setting the tone for the event. Fr. Santhanam, President of the National Lawyers Forum of Catholic Priests and Religious, delivered the presidential address, highlighting the organization's origin, purpose, and commitment to upholding the dignity and rights of citizens.
