Vatican City, December 23, 2024: Pope Francis met with employees of the Holy See, the Governorate of Vatican City State and the Vicariate of Rome in the Paul VI Hall for the traditional Christmas greetings on December 22. In a heartfelt address, the Pope expressed his gratitude for their tireless work in helping spread the Kingdom of God throughout the world. The gathering included Vatican employees and their families, where the Pope praised the staff for their dedication to both the Vatican and the universal Church.
The Pope reflected on the busy atmosphere of Vatican City, likening it to a "large beehive" due to the multitude of activities taking place across the city-state. He acknowledged the unsung efforts of those unable to attend the event but who still contributed to making the occasion possible. In his address, Pope Francis also encouraged dialogue in the workplace, urging employees to openly communicate with supervisors to find solutions to challenges.
Pope Francis highlighted the significance of work, drawing a parallel to Jesus Christ’s humble life as a carpenter in Nazareth. He reminded the employees that, like Jesus, their daily labor in the "hidden Nazareths" of their tasks helps to bring all humanity to Christ. In this way, their contributions play a vital role in spreading the message of salvation.
Turning to the theme of family, Pope Francis urged everyone to cherish their family relationships, especially during the holiday season. He emphasized the importance of prayer together as a family, particularly in front of the nativity scene, and stressed the value of spending quality time with children and grandparents. He also called on families to nurture the faith, which is first encountered in the home through the Sacraments and acts of love.
Following his speech, the Pope warmly greeted attendees, sharing gifts and blessings with the children present. His words and actions served as a reminder of the deep spiritual bond within the Vatican community and the importance of love, family, and faith during this sacred time of year.
