Archbishop George Antonysamy Leads Pilgrimage to Vailankanni Shrine, Chennai

Chennai, September 5, 2025 – Archbishop George Antonysamy of Madras-Mylapore, made his traditional annual pilgrimage on foot to the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Health, Vailankanni, Besant Nagar, Chennai on September 4. The Archbishop was accompanied by members of his Curia, walking in solidarity with the millions of devotees who journey to the shrine during the festive season.

The pilgrimage began with an opening prayer at the Archbishop’s House in Santhome and concluded at the shrine with the celebration of Lauds and Holy Mass. Along the way, pilgrims were visibly moved and overjoyed to find the Archbishop and his Curia walking alongside them, sharing in their devotion.

During the pilgrimage, Archbishop George Antonysamy prayed for the intentions of the Archdiocese and for all the faithful pilgrims. In his homily at the shrine, he reflected on the Gospel call of discipleship, asking: “When Jesus called, his disciples went. How many of us would go with Jesus if He were to call us today?”

The Archbishop’s annual pilgrimage continues to serve as a sign of pastoral closeness, encouraging the faithful to deepen their commitment to Christ through Mary, Our Lady of Good Health.
