Mangalore, June 12, 2025: A one-day training programme for new animators of the Young Catholic Students/Young Students Movement (YCS/YSM) in the Diocese of Mangalore was held on June 8, 2025, at St. Rita Church, Cascia. The event saw the enthusiastic participation of 33 new animators representing various YCS/YSM units from across the diocese.
The event began with an introductory session led by Rev. Fr. Roshan D'Cunha, Director of YCS/YSM, Mangalore Diocese. He provided an insightful overview of the movement’s history, mission, and core values, highlighting its role in forming student leaders grounded in Gospel values and committed to positive social transformation. His inspiring address motivated the new animators to embrace their responsibilities with enthusiasm and dedication.
Mr. Richard Alvares conducted the next session, which focused on the structure and importance of the Cell Meeting, a foundational aspect of the YCS/YSM methodology. He walked the participants through the "See-Judge-Act" approach, encouraging them to foster a reflective and action-oriented culture among their student groups.
A highlight of the day was the Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Roshan. In his homily, he reflected on the spiritual dimension of being an animator, describing the role as a ministry of accompaniment and formation, grounded in love and faith.
The event concluded with a communal lunch, providing an opportunity for fellowship and informal interaction among the participants. The sharing of experiences and ideas helped build a sense of community among them.
The training programme left the new animators both spiritually enriched and practically equipped to guide and lead YCS/YSM units in their respective schools and parishes.
