Patna, August 22, 2024: Sr. M. Rashmi, Principal of Patna Women’s College, received the prestigious "Icons of Excellence 2024" award by the Times of India on August 20 in a ceremony held at Hotel Chanakya, Patna. Sr. Rashmi, known for her extensive work in education and community outreach, spoke to Catholic Connect expressing her surprise and gratitude for being selected for this honour.
Sr. Rashmi's academic and professional journey is marked by her leadership roles at Patna Women’s College, where she has served as Principal since 2018. Additionally, she has earned a Ph.D. from Patna University and holds memberships in various academic and government bodies, contributing significantly beyond the field of education.
Patna Women’s College is the first women's college in Bihar, established in 1940 and the only college in the state to achieve an A++ NAAC accreditation. The college is renowned for its academic excellence and its extensive outreach programs. "We have lots of outreach programs. Our students actively participate in initiatives like remedial coaching at government schools and every Saturday is dedicated to these efforts," Sr. Rashmi noted. The college’s commitment to social responsibility is evident with 5,000 students contributing to community service, including teaching underprivileged children in the evenings.
Reflecting on the award, Sr. Rashmi said, "I felt good about being there, receiving the award and felt proud for the college because our outreach and extension services are well-known in the state. I owe it to staff, students and the management."
Sr. Rashmi’s leadership continues to inspire, as she embodies the values of education, service, and commitment to social justice in the state.
