Pope Leo: Blessed Virgin Mary, Watch Over This Humanity

Vatican City, 9 December 2025 — Pope Leo XIV has invited the faithful to entrust themselves to the Blessed Virgin Mary, asking her to watch over humanity in a world facing technological, social and moral challenges, as he reflected on the Virgin’s role in guiding believers to greater fidelity, compassion and hope.

Addressing participants in the Marian Days celebration on 6 December, the Pope emphasised that Mary’s maternal care offers a model of faith that embraces both the joys and burdens of modern life, helping people to remain rooted in the Gospel amid rapid change and uncertainty.

He underscored that looking to Mary encourages believers to live with humility, openness and trust in God’s plan, even when confronted by cultural pressures or personal trials. The Pope noted that her “Yes” to God at the Annunciation reveals a pathway for Christians to respond generously to their own callings.

Pope Leo also stressed that Mary’s maternal intercession is a source of consolation and strength for individuals and communities navigating conflict, fragmentation and moral ambiguity in a globalised world. He encouraged the faithful to deepen their devotion to her as a way of drawing closer to Christ and serving others with compassion.
