Kochi, July 20, 2025: Responding to longstanding grievances and the systemic denial of rights faced by the Latin Catholic community, the Kerala Latin Catholic Association (KLCA) has rolled out a statewide community outreach initiative. The programme aims to raise public awareness and identify effective, participatory solutions to the challenges confronting the community.
A central goal of the campaign is to press for the implementation of the J.B. Koshy Commission’s recommendations, which are widely regarded as essential for resolving numerous issues affecting the Latin Catholic population.
Marking the formal launch of the initiative, Auxiliary Bishop of Verapoly, Dr. Antony Valunkal, released the campaign’s registration form by handing it over to community spokesperson Joseph Jude.
Dr. Jiju Arakkathara, General Secretary of the Kerala Regional Latin Catholic Council (KRLCC), was also present at the occasion, lending his support to the movement.
The official state-level inauguration of the outreach programme is scheduled to take place on 16 August in Kozhikode. The event will be officiated by Archbishop Dr. Varghese Chakkalakal.
KLCA State President Adv. Sherry J. Thomas, General Secretary Biju Josey, Treasurer Ratheesh Antony, along with diocesan leaders from across Kerala, will spearhead and coordinate the campaign.
As part of the initiative, each diocese will engage experienced resource persons to facilitate discussions and propose practical, well-informed solutions to the issues highlighted during the outreach events. This inclusive approach aims to ensure that the concerns of the community are addressed through democratic and participatory methods.
The outreach campaign marks a significant step in KLCA’s ongoing efforts to advocate for justice, dignity, and equitable development for the Latin Catholic community in Kerala.
