Udupi, 01 April, 2025 – The Commission for Inter-Religious Dialogue and Social Communications hosted Kathala Haadu (Song of the Night) on 29 March, at St. Anne’s Church, in the Diocese of Udupi. The event promoted peace, harmony, and interfaith dialogue, urging attendees to seek the true essence of religion beyond outward displays of faith.
Fr. Denis D’Sa, Parish Priest of St. Anne’s Church, highlighted theatre’s power to question authority and drive social change. Drawing inspiration from Jesus Christ, Basavanna, Buddha, and Kanakadasa, he encouraged critical thinking and a commitment to truth, peace, and tolerance.
Honouring social contributors, the event recognised swimmer Eshwar Malpe and theatre artist Nadamani Nalkuru for their efforts in inspiring change and unity.
A two-and-a-half-hour theatrical and musical performance by Nada Maninalkuru was the centrepiece, featuring verses from saints such as Kanakadasa, Kabeer, and Basavanna, a poignant letter by Abraham Lincoln, and soul-stirring songs by G.S. Shivarudrappa. Contemporary poetry also gave voice to the new generation.
Dignitaries, including Sunil Fernandes, Vice President of St. Anne’s Church Management Committee, and Ramesh Thingalaya from Samanvaya Sarvadharama Sauharda Samithi, attended the event. Hosted by Lavina Fernandes, the programme concluded with a vote of thanks, leaving a lasting impression of peace and unity.
