Fr. Thomas Vadakkel Appointed to Vatican Committee for Pope Benedict XVI Centenary Celebrations

New Delhi, 19 July 2025 (CBCI) – Fr. Thomas Vadakkel, Secretary of the CBCI Office for Doctrine, has been appointed as a member of the International Committee established by the Vatican’s Joseph Ratzinger–Benedict XVI Foundation. The committee has been formed to coordinate global celebrations marking the centenary of the birth of Pope Benedict XVI, which will take place on 16 April 2027.


The Joseph Ratzinger–Benedict XVI Foundation, created to promote and preserve the theological legacy of the late Pope, has launched this international initiative to spearhead a series of commemorative activities. These will include academic conferences, publications, research projects, and other events designed to highlight the profound theological contributions of Joseph Ratzinger–Benedict XVI.


The overarching aim of the committee is to promote a theology inspired by the late Pope’s thought—one that addresses today’s challenges and prepares the Church and wider society for future developments.


Fr. Vadakkel also serves as Secretary of the Doctrinal Commission of the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC) and is a Professor at the Pontifical Oriental Institute of Religious Studies (POIRS) in Vadavathoor, Kottayam.


His appointment to this distinguished committee stands as a testament to his theological acumen and his significant contributions to doctrinal formation within the Indian Church.
