Fr. Rob Galea’s India Tour 2024 to Aid the Underprivileged

Popularly known as “The Singing Priest”, Fr. Rob Galea, a Maltese/Australian Catholic priest and Christian music artist, is set to rock India again this year. After enthralling thousands of people last year at his concert in Goa, Fr. Rob will be touring India again this year from the 30th of November to the 8th of December. In a candid conversation with Catholic Connect, Fr. Rob shared brief details about his upcoming tour, his experience in Goa last year and details about an upcoming movie based on his journey.

How will this year's tour of India be different from your tour in 2023?

Well, after visiting Goa for the first time in 2023, I fell in love with the people of Goa. It was a wonderful blessing to minister to thousands of people and to play music in front of such an amazing crowd. This year, we have some new songs and new visuals included in our concerts. The concerts will be tighter, more profound and unapologetically directed toward the heart of Jesus. They are praise and worship concerts and are good for families. They are also ideal for people who are lost in life and are seeking the truth and seeking God. It is a perfect opportunity for people and families to come together in the presence of the Lord.

How was your experience in Goa last year?

I had a wonderful experience in Goa last year. It was simply overwhelming. Goa won my heart and I want to continue to give back to Goa and India. This is why we've decided to make our concerts in India this year ‘charitable concerts.’ A large part of the profits from our concerts will be directed to various charities that look after the poor and the underprivileged.

Attendance of Holy Mass is usually very low in most parishes in Australia. How is the scenario at the parish you serve at? Has your music contributed to bringing more people to church?

The parish I serve at (St. Kilian's Parish, Bendigo, Victoria) is immensely blessed. Attendance for Holy Mass is very high on Sundays. Sometimes, there's only standing room! It is a parish that is thriving, alive, and so thirsty for God. It hasn't been so because of my music as such, but rather because of the sense of community that parishioners have and their desire to seek the presence of God. Music plays a huge role in drawing people to church, but it is the sense of community and purpose, and allowing people to integrate within the community in the presence of God that makes a difference. Music is a good start, but it is not what's going to keep people there.

The Catholic Influencers Podcast produced by your ICON Ministry is an amazing production. Does your ministry have any plans to venture into film production and make movies and TV shows related to the Catholic faith?

The Catholic Influencers Podcast is now called Outside the Chapel podcast; we've changed the name. Also, our ICON Ministry has already produced several shows for a faith-based TV channel called Shalom World. We are also getting into film production. A Hollywood movie based on my book Breakthrough is currently being planned. The movie chronicles my transformative journey from a struggling artist to a celebrated priest and musician and my rise to fame on the X-Factor stage. The movie is being produced in the U.S. film industry. So, we're seeking all kinds of media to reach out to people across the world.

What message do you have for young Catholics all over the world?

Well, I would say just this: Let Jesus love you. Very often, we try so much to be loved, we try so much to find peace and we try so much to find purpose. At the end of the day, our greatest peace and purpose come when we allow God to love us. It is the easiest thing to do in the world, but also the most difficult thing to do at the same time; to surrender to God. And I pray that young people may experience this beautiful richness that comes with surrendering to God.
