Kochi, September 6, 2025 – The Archdiocese of Verapoly will witness a historic moment tomorrow as the very first church in the world dedicated to Blessed Carlo Acutis will be blessed at Kakkanad Pallikkara.
The milestone coincides with the day on which the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, will officially declare Blessed Carlo Acutis a saint of this millennium. Known globally as the “Saint of the Cyber World”, Carlo Acutis was an Italian teenager who used his deep faith and computer skills to spread devotion to the Eucharist. He has become a powerful role model for young people.
The church at Kakkanad Pallikkara, built under the Archdiocese of Verapoly, will be blessed by the Archbishop, His Grace Dr. Joseph Kalathiparambil. Church leaders describe the occasion as a testimony to the growing devotion to Carlo Acutis, particularly among youth who see in him an inspiring witness of faith in modern times.
Carlo Acutis, beatified in 2020, is widely revered for his simple yet profound spirituality. He referred to the Eucharist as his “highway to heaven” and used his talents in technology to create a website cataloguing Eucharistic miracles across the world. His life, though cut short by leukaemia at the age of 15, has left a lasting spiritual legacy.
The dedication of this new church at Kakkanad Pallikkara symbolises both a local and global recognition of Carlo’s sanctity. It will stand as a place of worship and inspiration for generations to come, highlighting his role as a promoter of Eucharistic devotion and as a modern saint for the digital age.
The Archdiocese has invited the faithful to take part in the celebration, which marks not only the inauguration of a new church but also the recognition of a saint whose example bridges tradition and contemporary life.
