As we enter the last few weeks of Lent, it’s easy to feel the weight of those resolutions that once felt so fresh, so resolute. Whether you gave up something beloved or took on a new spiritual practice, the end of Lent is often when the initial excitement fades and the temptation to slip back into old habits becomes stronger.
But fear not—there’s still plenty of time to finish this season with strength, purpose, and a renewed sense of commitment. Here’s how you can stay motivated and finish your Lenten sacrifice strong.
1. Revisit Your Why
When you first embarked on your Lenten sacrifice, you probably had a deep reason or a personal goal behind it. It’s time to reconnect with that purpose. Why did you choose to give up chocolate, social media, or commit to daily prayer? Reflect on how this sacrifice has helped you grow spiritually or emotionally, and let that reminder fuel your final push.
Tip: Write down your “why” and keep it visible—maybe on your fridge, in your journal, or as a reminder in your phone. Every time temptation strikes, remind yourself of the bigger picture.
2. Seek Accountability
Lent is not meant to be a solo endeavour. Share your experiences with others. Whether through your church community, a group of friends, or online groups dedicated to Lent, community support can make all the difference. There’s something about knowing that others are facing the same struggles that can help you feel less isolated and more accountable.
Tip: Join a prayer circle, share your struggles and triumphs with a friend, or organise a virtual or in-person check-in with others who are also in the final stretch. We’re all in this together.
3. Adapt and Adjust
Sometimes, sticking to a Lenten sacrifice becomes harder as the days go by. Maybe you’ve found that giving up sugar is affecting your energy levels, or maybe your new habit of prayer feels more like a chore than a connection. Don’t be afraid to adjust your approach if necessary. Lent is about growth, not perfection. Perhaps, you could try switching the time of day you pray or replace one sacrifice with a more meaningful action. The goal is spiritual transformation, and that sometimes requires flexibility.
Tip: Reflect every week on how you’re doing. Is your sacrifice still serving you? If not, reframe it or try a different approach.
4. Lean into Prayer and Reflection
Your Lenten journey isn’t just about what you give up—it’s also about what you gain. This is the perfect time to deepen your prayer life and reflect on the lessons you’ve learnt during this holy season. A focused time of prayer and reflection can breathe new life into your sacrifice and help you finish with a deeper understanding of its purpose.
Tip: Spend time each week reflecting on what you’ve learnt so far. Journal about the changes you’ve noticed in yourself, or spend time in silence meditating on how God is shaping you through this process.
5. Visualise the Finish Line
Easter is just a few weeks aways, and while the final days of Lent may feel challenging, they’re also an opportunity to finish strong. Visualise yourself making it to Easter Sunday, feeling proud and accomplished because you stuck with your commitments. Let this image be your motivation to keep pushing through the temptation to give up or slack off.
Tip: Imagine how it will feel when you reach the finish line. Take a moment to daydream about the sense of peace and achievement you’ll feel once Easter arrives. Keep that vision in mind as you tackle the last days of Lent.
With less than 20 days left, it’s not too late to finish your Lenten journey with strength, resolve, and spiritual growth. Remember,
Lent is about transformation, not perfection—so give yourself the grace to grow, and watch how these final days shape you in ways you never imagined.
Keep going—you’ve got this!
