32 Christians Killed in Coordinated Night Attack on Jebu Village, Nigeria

Nigeria, July 24, 2025: A brutal overnight assault on the Christian farming community of Jebu in Plateau State on July 14 has left at least 32 people dead, including infants, according to International Christian Concern (ICC). The attack, reportedly carried out by armed Fulani extremists, resulted in the destruction of homes, farmland, and the village church.

Survivors described a coordinated strike in which gunmen stormed the village under the cover of darkness, opening fire on sleeping residents. Several victims were burned beyond recognition. Entire families were discovered dead within the charred remains of their homes. Among the deceased was Weng Dachung, a youth leader who reportedly tried to defend the village.

Local residents claimed that military personnel stationed nearby failed to intervene and allegedly obstructed local youths from mounting a response. Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang strongly condemned the incident and dismissed suggestions that it was part of a “farmers-herders clash.”

Rev. Musa D. Alamba, pastor of the razed church, stated that he had lost everything in the attack and urgently appealed for humanitarian support, including food, clothing, and shelter for displaced villagers.

The massacre in Jebu is the fourth major attack reported by ICC in Plateau State this year. Since January, over 150 people have been killed in a wave of violence characterised by late-night raids, arson, and mass displacement. Survivors are grappling with extreme trauma and hunger as critical farming seasons are disrupted and food insecurity looms.

Local organisations are offering aid, but relief efforts remain strained due to the scale of devastation and ongoing threats in the region.
