Bengal-Sikkim CDPI Pledges Strong Support for CCBI Pastoral Plan 2033

Asansol, August 9, 2024: The Bengal-Sikkim Regional Conference of the Diocesan Priests of India (CDPI), known for its vibrant and dynamic engagement, has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the CCBI Pastoral Plan 2033 across its dioceses, with a particular focus on the ongoing formation goals set by the VSCR Commission.

In a one-day consultation and planning workshop held at Chetana Ashram, Pastoral Center in Burdwan, Asansol Diocese, regional CDPI executives gathered to strategize the plan's implementation. The event, held on August 8, 2024, was inaugurated by Bishop Elias Frank of Asansol, who is also the Patron of the CDPI.

Bishop Frank urged the CDPI leadership to embrace the missionary thrust of the Bengal-Sikkim region with renewed vigor. He emphasized that the goals outlined in the CCBI Pastoral Plan 2033, particularly those related to the VSCR Commission, are crucial to advancing God's reign in the region. The Bishop praised the regional CDPI's proactive planning and called for close collaboration between diocesan executives and the forthcoming initiatives focused on the ongoing formation of young clergy.

Representatives from seven of the region's eight dioceses participated in the workshop, with 16 members actively contributing to the day’s discussions. The participants expressed their deep sorrow and concern over the recent tragic landslides in the Darjeeling Diocese. They also resolved to support CDPI’s national level ‘Manipur housing project’ by raising funds and ensuring timely implementation of planned activities within their dioceses.

The workshop was led by Fr. Blascius Murmu, President of CDPI and Regional Secretary of the VSCR Commission, alongside Fr. Roy Kujur, National CDPI Treasurer, Fr. Anup Mondal, Secretary, and Fr. Roshan Tigga, representing the Asansol diocesan CDPI unit. A key decision made during the event was for diocesan executive members to visit all diocesan clergy within their jurisdictions to strengthen CDPI units as fraternal forums, fostering mutual support and cooperation.

This initiative reflects the Bengal-Sikkim region’s commitment to missionary leadership envisioned in the CCBI Pastoral Plan 2033, ensuring that the goals of formation, evangelization, and community building are realized across the region.
